New Vineyard Plantings in 2009
Quinta do Vesuvio is acknowledged as the premier estate in the Douro Valley; The Symingtons purchased Vesuvio in 1989 after years of neglect by previous owners had allowed the property to slip into disrepair. The family immediately embarked on an ambitious program of plantings and improvements to the iconic house and chapel and massive winery, to bring the Quinta back to its former glory. Now, two decades later, this property is once again the preeminent grand Chateau of the Douro, with vineyards second to (know) none in the Valley. This year 10 hectares of new plantings of Touriga Nacional and Sousão grape varietals will further add to Vesuvio’s capacity to produce amongst the finest wine in the Douro.
